Where can I find an AED?

SCDF launched the Save-A-Life initiative in 2015 and has since installed more than 5,400 AEDs: one at the lift lobby of every two HDB residential blocks, and near the guardhouse of eligible condominiums. Community clubs, shopping centres and sports facilities also have them.

These AEDs are listed in the national AED registry. SCDF's myResponder app shows the AEDs near you. It is worth checking now where the nearest one to your home is.

Once switched on, an AED gives voice instructions on placing the pads, when to do CPR and when to deliver a shock. The handbook says children aged one to eight, or weighing under 25 kg, should get paediatric pads; adult pads can be used on a child only as a last resort when paediatric pads are not available. This is a reminder of the key points, not a substitute for a course. Hand position and compression force need hands-on practice with an instructor.
