When should I call 995? Is 1777 going away?

995 is for emergencies only. SCDF's examples: cardiac arrest, seizures, breathlessness, loss of consciousness, heavy bleeding, major trauma and stroke. A suspected heart attack is also a 995 call.

Toothache, diarrhoea, cough, headache, minor burns or scalds, constipation and medical check-ups are not emergencies. SCDF charges $274 for each non-emergency case it takes to hospital.

1777 is going away. MOH announced on 1 July 2026 that the 1777 non-emergency ambulance hotline stops from 1 January 2027; 995 is not affected. After that:
