What does a Town Council do?
It manages and maintains the common areas of HDB estates, such as lifts, corridors and void decks.
Town Councils are set up under the Town Councils Act and are led by the elected Members of Parliament for the area; at least two-thirds of council members must be residents of the HDB estates in the town.
They control, manage, maintain and improve the common property of HDB estates, such as linkways, gardens, lifts, corridors and void decks. Their work includes lift servicing, cleaning, upgrading facilities and cyclical maintenance.
What is inside your flat is not their responsibility. Town Councils are funded mainly by the monthly Service & Conservancy Charges (S&CC) paid by residents.
