How are PG1/2/3 different from G1/G2/G3?
PG is the Posting Group used for placement, set by the PSLE score; G is the level a subject is taken at.
Posting Groups (PG1/2/3) are used for Secondary 1 placement and depend on the PSLE score: 4–20 is PG3; 21–22 is PG2 or PG3; 23–24 is PG2; 25 is PG1 or PG2; 26–30 (with AL7 or better in English and Mathematics) is PG1.
G1/G2/G3 are subject levels (G stands for General), with G3 the most demanding. Students posted through PG3 start with all subjects at G3; those in PG2 and PG1 take most subjects at G2 and G1 respectively.
Secondary schools use Full Subject-Based Banding (Full SBB): students in PG2 and PG1 who did well in a subject at PSLE can take English, Mathematics, Science and/or Mother Tongue at a more demanding level.
